Mass Offerings

Parishioners and friends of St Peter’s . . . if you would like a Mass offered for your deceased loved one or for a special intention etc please note that for weekend Masses you need to book approximately 6 weeks in advance and around a month for weekday Masses.

As many people are booking well in advance the date you require may still not be available.

Baptism Preparation

Baptism Preparation ... Thursday, 2nd September

Baptism preparation is held on the first Thursday of each month at 7.30pm in the foyer.  All who apply to have their child baptised in the parish  are expected to attend preparation.  

Baptisms are celebrated at 1pm every Sunday.

Sacramental/Faith Formation Program
This is for all children (including Government School children) who have not received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation and also for children to generally help in their faith formation.

Car Parking in school grounds . . .

The gate to the Rose Street entrance will be opened for Saturday 7pm Vigil Mass and the Sunday morning Masses 8am, 10am & 11.15am and the Mary Street gate will be open for parishioners to walk through after parking their car.

21.  In 1876, a Diocesan Congregation came into being in Bathurst.  Having no faith in Mary MacKillop, ‘a woman who had never spent one hour in religious training,’ the Bishop appointed as Sister Guardian one who had been with Mary since 1868. From Brisbane, Mary (‘young, sentimental, female, obstinate, colonial – and not Irish’) and her authority were dismissed. From 1880 all Sisters of St Joseph left Queensland (returning under central government in 1900).

OUR MARY.  HISTORIC DAY for MELBOURNE.  HISTORIC MOMENT in FITZROY

History will be made on 17 October 2010 when Mary MacKillop will become Australia’s first canonised saint.  Mary Mac- Killop is a saint for all Australians, a remarkable woman who embodied heroic goodness and saintliness in an  Australian way.

To celebrate this historic occasion, the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne and the Sisters of St Joseph are hosting a celebration, Celebrating Australia’s First Saint – Mary MacKillop, in Fitzroy on that day.  All are welcome!

Archbishop Denis Hart, Sr Josephine Dubiel RSJ, Provincial Leader Victoria, and James Merlino Minister for Sport, Recreation, Youth Affairs and Minister Assisting the Premier on Multicultural Affairs, will speak to the media at a media launch of Celebrating Australia’s First Saint – Mary MacKillop this Sunday.

There is going to be a colourful and exuberant street procession, commencing mid afternoon at 2:55pm from the city end    of Brunswick Street Fitzroy to the Royal Exhibition Building.  The celebrations will continue with a festival at the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens. There will be a prayer service later in the afternoon followed by a live broadcast on big screens of Mary’s canonisation in Rome.

Update re Caritas Australia South Asia Floods - Pakistan

As a second wave of flooding continues to move through Sindh province in Pakistan and more people are being evacuated to makeshift settlements. Our local partner in Pakistan, Catholic Relief Services, has so far distributed shelter and hygiene kits to 3,601 households and is repairing water supply systems and community infrastructure. We continue to provide life saving aid straight from the Australian public to the communities in Pakistan. By giving to us, you are giving directly to them.

Centacare Catholic Family Services’ Friends of the Mary of the Cross are holding a Gala Parade of Wedding Gowns throughout the Century as a fundraiser for their Alcohol & Other Drug Family Service.
